My first Japanese Maple was a freebie from Sooner that was rated to grow to as much as 25 feet high, a height I wasn't able to find in the local stores. A scraggly little sucker at 24 1/2 inches, he still fascinates me with his beauty.

I added the second in the spring of 2008 in an effort to hinder the ability of the commercial neighbors and customers to watch me grill steak in my boxers. (Just a joke... sorta.) It was rated at a possible 20 or more feet. I'm pretty sure they're the same breed.

I was told these are slow growers, but the Little guy is looking like he will grow a foot or more the first year. I won't start measuring the second one until this fall.

I didn't plant the second Japanese Maple until this spring, so there are no photos of him for the first year.

Notice he doesn't show the red colors of the Front J,
as there are so many different breeds of the
Japanese Maple.
